When Good People Do Nothing Proverbs 24:11-12; Mark 10:46-49
Open Letter to Council, Nov 27, 2024
Mayor McDonald, Deputy Mayor Lang, Councilors Jaworski, McDonell, Bougie
As good people, you know it is wrong to pay tens of thousands of dollars to lawyers for letters like this:
Mr. Senior Resident
“…in light of your attendance at the municipal offices of South Glengarry wherein: you requested to speak with Ms. Campeau, requested the addresses for the Mayor and Deputy Mayor and asked for access to further documents to be produced.
To be clear:
• Ms. Campeau will not be speaking with you ...
• The basis for your request for the addresses of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor is entirely unclear, but it will not be provided to you.
WHY not provide public records? What does it cost? What is the harm? How can anyone justify this unlawful conduct?
It is wrong to pay a lawyer to advise our Clerk to deny information that is publicly available on our Township website, while our Clerk has a legislated duty to provide public records.
Past breaches of legislated obligations has cost residents tens of thousands and this senior resident hundreds of thousands.
Is your message to residents FOI? Or do you echo the lawyer’s FO?
Remember these words:
If you do nothing in a difficult time….
